What Happens if a Game is Postponed on Betway? | We Answer All Your FAQs

We've all been there. You're just getting ready to watch the big game with the boys and then the news comes in that the match has been postponed. Your next thought is probably, but what happens to my bet that I placed on Betway if the game won't be played today.

The rules for settling bets on postponed games are fairly standard across all betting sites including Betway South Africa. To make sure you know what to expect when it comes to your bets, here's how it works.  

1️⃣ What happens if a game is postponed on Betway?

If a game or event is not played on its scheduled date for any reason, all bets will be carried forward to the following day. If after 24 hours the game is still not played, then all bets will be made void. 

With soccer, postponed matches usually only take place several days or even weeks after the scheduled date, so most bets on postponed soccer matches will end up being voided by Betway.  

In the case of baseball on Betway, all bets are voided immediately after being postponed and not carried forward for 24 hours. This means for your bet to still stand (be valid), you'll need to place another bet on the match with your returned stake once a new date has been scheduled.

2️⃣ What does it mean if your bet has been voided?

When your bet is voided it means it is cancelled. However much money you bet is returned to your Betway account for you to use again whenever you like.

3️⃣ What if a match on Betway gets abandoned? 

If any match on Betway gets underway but is later abandoned due to bad weather, crowd trouble or a medical emergency (e.g. Christian Eriksen in Euro 2021), all bets that have already been settled up until that time will still stand. 

So, if a soccer match is abandoned at some point in the second half, but you placed a bet on which team will win the first half, your bet will still stand. Similarly, if you placed a bet on the winner of the first set and the match is abandoned in the second set, your bet will still be settled as a win or a loss depending on the result of the first set. 

However, if you placed a bet on the Match Winner and it was abandoned before the match is completed, then your bet will be voided on Betway.

4️⃣ How do you know if your bet has been voided?

Log in to your Betway account and use the main menu to find "My Bets". Check your Bet History to see if any of your bets have been voided and money has been returned to your account balance. Any bet declared void is cancelled which means you won't win or lose any money. 

5️⃣ What happens to your multibet if a game is postponed on Betway?

As we said earlier, if you placed a single bet on a game that is postponed on Betway, your full stake will be refunded to your Betway account. But for multibets or system bets, the rest of your bet will stand and your winnings will be recalculated without the odds of that match included. 

For example, let's say you have 3 selections in your multibet which are Manchester United (2.00), Liverpool (1.50) and Leicester (2.00). If the match involving Liverpool is postponed on Betway, the recalculated odds for your multibet is 4.00 (2.00 x 2.00). To work out your potential return which will be smaller, multiply your stake by the recalculated odds.

6️⃣ What if I bet on a postponed game with my Betway free bet?

If a game is postponed on Betway that you have placed a free bet on, such as your Welcome Bonus, your free bet will be returned to your Betway account for you to use again.

7️⃣ What if I had a Betway Win Boost and the game is postponed?

If your bet qualified for the Betway Win Boost and the game is postponed on Betway, your extra winnings will be re-calculated based on how many selections you have after the postponed game is removed. 

For example, if you were due to receive a 7% boost on your multibet with 5 selections, the postponement of one game will mean you get a 4% boost based on your 4 remaining selections. 

8️⃣ What if I used Betway Build A Bet and the game is postponed?

If you used the Betway Build a Bet feature to combine multiple selections from the same match, your entire bet will be voided if the match is postponed on Betway.

9️⃣ Do I still qualify for Betway Money Back Boost if one of my selections is voided?

If a match is postponed on Betway and not played within 24 hours, then that selection will not count towards your stake refund. In other words, you'll only qualify for the Betway Money Back Boost if the postponed match means you still meet the minimum requirement of 6 selections on your betslip.
