Hollywoodbets Durban July 2023 Final Field
The upcoming Hollywoodbets Durban July, marking its 127th edition, is set to take place at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday, July 1, with a full roster of 20 horses, including 2 reserves. The final list for the grand R5 million event was disclosed at the main sponsor's Headquarters in Umhlanga Rocks on Tuesday, yielding no significant surprises, except perhaps for the omission of Aragosta, the 2022 Gr1 SA Derby victor, who didn't make the cut despite a solid performance last Saturday at the Gr3 Track And Ball Derby.
Aragosta's omission leaves defending champion trainer Mike de Kock with two representatives - the impressive 3-year-old Dave The King, who recently finished a close second behind race favorite See It Again at the Daily News 2000, and Safe Passage, who has maintained a low-profile preparation for the race. Safe Passage will be ridden by ten-time French champion, Christophe Soumillon.
Justin Snaith, aiming for his sixth July win, fields a strong team with 5 runners, including the historic two-time winner Do It Again, who has the distinction of being the most experienced Durban July runner ever. The selection of jockeys by Snaith has been eagerly anticipated, with Richard Fourie's decision to ride Without Question attracting a large following.
The 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July's final field lineup includes a wide array of renowned horses, jockeys, and trainers, promising an exciting race.

The remaining female horses in the final field are Snaith's Silver Darling and Brett Crawford's Time Flies.
Michael Roberts and Piere Strydom, both veterans of the race, hope to etch their names into the annals of history again with the current favorite, See It Again, aiming to secure his third Grade 1 victory of the season.
Female trainers aim to tally 3 wins in 7 years, with Robyn Klaasen presenting her first Durban July contender, Second Base, and Candice Bass-Robinson, 2017's race winner with Marinaresco, training the highly-discussed additional entry, Trip Of Fortune.
